For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light. Ephesians 5:8
What does it mean to Walk as children of the LIGHT?
We must first learn what Light actually is. For you see Light is a Symbolic representation of two things:
#1. Truth which is Intellectual knowledge.
#2. Holiness which is Moral Behavior.
We intake Truth from God’s Word (In Faith, believing what it says and By the Power of the Holy Spirit working inside of us) to output LIFE.
Breath in Truth, exhale Life. We must receive Truth to live a Holy Life.
Jesus said they will know the TRUTH and the TRUTH will set them Free. (John 8:31-32)
The devil is a liar, and there is no truth found in him. (John 8:44)
There are 2 Kingdoms given in the WORD
(Colossians 1:13-14)
#1. Kingdom of Light– Kingdom of God’s Truth, Love, Joy, Peace, Righteousness, and Holiness, leads to eternal life through Christ Jesus.
#2. Kingdom of Darkness– Ruled by Satan; slave to sin, lies, destruction, decay, evil, wickedness, vile, moral corruption, leads to eternal hell.
Because we know there are TWO Kingdoms if you are not a child of God walking in the Light then you are walking in DARKNESS.
There is a contrast and we can’t escape the reality of this truth.
Truth is absolute, faithful, firm, unchanging. Holiness means apartness, sacredness.
We are called by God to walk in the truth and we are to behave unlike the children who walk in darkness. We should act differently, sound differently, respond differently, but we can not do this on our own. We must submit our human flesh, our will to the Will of our Father God. Jesus emulated this submission when he was on the earth.
Will it be easy? No
Will there be a cost? Absolutely.
Will we reach perfection here now? No
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 1John 3:2-3
We will not be conformed perfectly until Jesus returns, but while we are here, by the help of the Holy Spirit the Word says he is transforming us little by little from Glory to Glory to be like his son Jesus. This hope is encouraging to cling to.
Why then? Why should we even try if we can’t be perfect now? The answer lies in this one scripture.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16
When we obey God and we submit to his will and we walk/LIVE in his Kingdom of Light, there is something being created, formed, birthed inside of us and the bible calls this good works, or sometimes called fruit.
Good work is defined as any product whatever, any thing accomplished by hand, art, industry, or mind.
Acts of service, acts of kindness, acts of unselfishness along with internal works of the mind/heart. These things can look like showing humility with our words, forgiveness, mercy, love even when we have every humanly accepted reason to respond with evil.
When we represent the Father God who is Good we invite others to receive his free gift of salvation as well, and we are helping to expand the Kingdom of God here on the Earth.
In the end God will receive his GLORY. He is the CREATOR, the beginning and the end, and we exist because he loves us and wants us to be a part of his creation glory story of LOVE. We don’t exist for ourselves or for our own glory, although our human nature is bent for self sufficiency and self glorification. It also doesn’t help that the Kingdom of Darkness is ruled by a narcissist who wants us all to exchange that truth for a lie like he has done. 😫
I believe that in order to live in true freedom and to do the works God has created for us here on this earth while we are living for him is to submit to his truth and allow our hearts/minds to become Holy. It is the intellectual knowledge and revelation of who Jesus is that allows our hearts to receive the holy moral behavior God has called us to walk in. It is also the Kindness and Mercy of the Lord who is faithful to forgive us when we slip into sin and behave like children of the Dark. Repent and ask the Holy Spirit to create in you a clean heart! He absolutely will help you in all areas.
