It would be nice if we could enter the world with an understanding of how evil and good influences us.
If you have parents who love God and are teaching you how to discern good from evil, right from wrong, then you are blessed!
As children, teens, and even young adults we are growing and developing to become one day amazing adults. We need all the wisdom that can be given to us to grow us up on the way we should go.
Think about the whole process of going to School. You don’t go to school to learn under uneducated teachers do you?
That would be a waste of your time, and you would not learn the things needed to graduate the twelfth grade.
Just as teachers are placed in your childhood to teach you, God has also placed in his body adults who are to teach you as well.
One of my favorite quotes my Husband tells my children is this. “Smart people learn from their mistakes, but WISE people learn from others.”
Such wisdom there. When we take a shot at figuring things out on our own, often times we find ourselves in a heap of trouble. We make mistakes which cause serious consequences and hopefully we learn to not make those mistakes again if we are smart! But, if we are wise we seek guidance from someone who has traveled down the path we are considering taking and inquire about how that turned out for them. This is wise! This is using wisdom to seek wisdom! 9 times out of 10 we can learn from others mistakes and dodge the multitude of hardships that will follow altogether!
If you don’t have a wise parent, grandparent, or teacher/mentor, there is still hope. God gave us his word we know as the Bible to lead us into all truth.
The Bible is filled with many stories of wise and foolish men. There are so many stories we could read and learn from.
I love the scripture posted above because it is so rich with wisdom, and it helps us to see where we might be getting our own selves into trouble by the company we keep, or the people and influences we surround ourselves with.
Maybe you don’t have many friends but you connect through influencers on social media. Maybe you have the same friends from pre-k and your afraid of moving on and meeting new friends? Maybe you are popular and don’t want to lose your popularity. Whatever the case may be I feel like the Holy Spirit is inviting us in to examine our circles of influence and take note if they are wise or if they are foolish today!
“Companion of fools will be destroyed.” This reminds me of that scripture of a house built on sand. The foundation is not stable and therefor the house comes crashing down.
Friend, you need stability in your life to grow in Christ. You need wise people who can help you make right choices. If you are wise and not just smart, you too can learn from their mistakes and dodge a lot of shame and regret.
So let’s us take an inventory today. Who are your friends? Who are your mentors? Who is pouring wisdom in your life?
If you look around and can’t find any, pray and ask the father who gives graciously friends and mentors who can speak life and wisdom into your soul! I promise you as you are growing older you will appreciate the gift of a good friend who loves Jesus and loves to walk in the Light of the Lord!
Fools are only leading you into darkness.
The blind lead the blind and they stumble over the things they can not see.
You were created to see! You were created to not only walk in the light but be the light this dark world so desperately needs!
Shine on!
